Police impersonation scam resurfaces in Weld County

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a police impersonation scam that resurfaced last week.

In November, we warned the public about a scam involving a suspect who called residents pretending to be Sgt. Pete Jones. The scammer would tell people they had active warrants for their arrest, which could be canceled if the scammer was paid off in gift cards.

Last week, a resident reported to dispatch he received a call from someone who said they were Sgt. Pete Jones with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer told the man he had two active warrants for this arrest; one for failing to appear in court and another for… More

In collaboration with the 2021 MLK Virtual March and Celebration, HPLD's Pop Up mobile unit is handing out buttons, take and make kits, and if you registered to pick up your t-shirt from the Pop Up, it's ready! We'll be at the following locations this week from 4-6pm:
• Wednesday, January 13: West parking lot of the City of Evans Commons Shopping Center (47th ave and 28th st)
• Thursday, January 14: Southeast parking lot of Sanborn Park at 35th Avenue and 20th Street.
• Friday, January 15: Southeast parking lot of the UCCC at 10th Avenue and 8th Street.

Take and Make kits and buttons are free and first-come, first served. If you registered and have set an appointment to pick up your t-shirt from the Pop Up, you should already have the details. Sorry, but the only t-shirts we'll have are those already set to be picked up!
