📸Species Spotlight: Bobwhite Quail Colorado Parks and Wildlife is in its second and final year of a research project looking at habitat selection and survival of northern bobwhites in northeastern Colorado. Bobwhite populations have been declining for years and this research will help Colorado Parks and Wildlife to manage habitat to try to stabilize populations. Field staff deploy transmitters on bobwhites that allow staff to locate the birds and figure out how far they move and how long they stay alive. Staff also take vegetation measurements, which will help determine the type of habitat quail prefer and allow Colorado Parks and Wildlife to manage habitat to satisfy their preferences. The map shows one bird’s locations throughout the breeding season. #WildlifeWednesday #livelifeoutsideco
