The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment is assisting in the coordination of the initial COVID-19 vaccine rollout for high risk frontline health care workers. The Health Department is working to ensure adequate COVID-19 vaccine distribution coverage for health care facilities, pharmacies, and long-term care facilities and is helping to identify gaps in coverage and distribution. In order to ensure effective coordination, the Health Department is distributing a COVID-19 vaccine planning survey to its health care partners this week. The information received from the survey will help inform future planning efforts around the distribution of the vaccine in Weld County.
The vaccine survey was developed in partnership with the Northern Colorado Health Care Coalition and will gather information about how many staff and residents will require the vaccine, vaccine storage, PPE needs and what other kinds of assistance they may require with administering the vaccine. Survey results will help the Health Department better align with the State of Colorado’s phased vaccine implementation plan. The phased vaccine distribution plan (Phase 1) includes first vaccinating high-risk frontline health care workers, followed by moderate risk health care workers and first responders; Phase 2 includes adults over 65 and adults with underlying health issues. The final phase (Phase 3) includes the general public and will likely occur in summer 2021.
Public health officials also continue to remind the public to practice social distancing, avoid large gatherings, wash hands frequently and wear face coverings.
