Firefighters have been busy this week going through ice rescue refresher training. It is that time of year when these calls come in and we want to make sure our crews are prepared. With the fluctuating
temperatures we have had recently, it is NOT SAFE to be on the ice. If you are near a body of water with your dog, make sure they are on a leash. Some of our calls have been for rescues of dogs that have fallen through the ice while chasing geese. If this does happen, DO NOT try to rescue the dog yourself. Call PFA and our trained firefighters will perform the rescue. Please follow the above guidance and don’t put yourself or our crews at risk.

A flag ceremony was held today for retiring Division Chief Ryan McLean at the PFA Headquarters. Chief McLean started his firefighting career with the Laramie, Wyoming Fire Department in 1995. In 2000, he was
hired by PFA. He has served as a firefighter, company officer, battalion chief, and was promoted to division chief in 2017. As the Support Services Division Chief, he oversaw the EMS Program, Fleet Maintenance, and Training Division. In an emotional ceremony, Chief McLean said, “I am very proud to have had the opportunity to be a professional firefighter in the community I grew up in.” Chief McLean is a 1991 graduate of Rocky Mountain High School. Chief McLean will still be serving the community as he transitions to his new career as the Senior Director of Prehospital Care for the UCHealth System. We will miss Chief McLean and wish him well in his new position.
