Road trips are making a comeback during this pandemic, but they sure do lack the luxury and pizazz of the 1920s. Hilda C. (Soderstrom) Swanson knew how to travel in style!

In 1899, Hilda emigrated from Sweden to Windsor. Shortly after, she met her husband, Gustaf Waldorf Swanson, who was 21 years her senior. They lived on a ranch north of town and had 8 children before Gus suddenly died from a stroke when Hilda was only 37. Hilda never remarried though she continued to live on the ranch with the help of a farmhand. Despite being a single mother, Hilda maintained an active social calendar.

🚧Trail Closure Alert: Starting on Monday, January 18, a portion of the Poudre River Trail near Whiting Reservoir will be closed. The closure is anticipated to last approximately 4 months. A detour will be located 1 mile east of Colorado Blvd. and 1/2 mile west of Eastman Park. The detour follows a gravel utility road that is rough and uneven. Dismounting is recommended if on a bike. The detour passes through private property so trail users are asked to stay on the road. For your safety, and out of respect for private property owners that allow the Poudre Trail to pass through their property, please do not go around signage and barriers. The detour is due to construction of the new Raindance Golf Course.
