Current Operations: All available plow trucks/drivers and equipment are out on routes at this time and will continue to clear any slush as well as sand intersections, bridges, curves and hilltops. Drivers are reporting that they have been through about 75% of their routes.

Current Weather Conditions: Temps will begin to drop this evening with light wind and a chance for a few more bands of snow to move through Weld County. Snow is expected to stop around 7:00 p.m.

Current Paved Road Conditions: Roadways are still just wet at this time with some slush on the shoulders. The low temps tonight and wet roads could cause some icy areas on our roadway this evening.

All routes are reporting that intersections, hilltops, curves will be sanded as needed. Roads north of WCR 74 and roads west of WCR 13 seem to have seen the most snow and will be an area of focus for the next shift.

Forecast Weather Conditions: Snow is forecasted to end around 1900, with light wind and temp dropping to 19 degrees by the morning.

Today, we honor the memory of Weld County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sam Brownlee, who was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 23, 2010, while apprehending a domestic violence suspect who was on the run out of Morgan County.

Nov. 23 is a day on the calendar everyone at the Weld County Sheriff’s Office dreads, especially those who worked with and knew Sam best. But there comes a time when it’s appropriate to stop mourning a man’s loss and to begin celebrating his legacy.

That is why we are pleased to announce the Weld County Commissioners this morning signed off on a proclamation naming our soon to be constructed law enforcement training facility the “Sam Brownlee Training Center.”

The facility, which will be located in Carr and constructed in two phases, will feature multiple shooting ranges of 25-300 yards, two buildings comprised of 16,000 square feet of classroom, office and indoor training space, a K9 training area, a fitness testing course, and a driving track. The training center is scheduled to be fully operational by the spring of 2022.

Sam used to always say, “Be careful out there.” In that spirit, we look forward to the Sam Brownlee Training Center serving as a hub for law enforcement instruction and education in Weld County for generations to come.
