CUMULONIMBUS SEASON IS APPROACHING – ARE YOU PREPARED?
WELD COUNTY, CO – Each year, Weld County skies are overtaken by cumulonimbus. Their size is overwhelming, and they are responsible for producing one of the very things Weld County is most noted for nationally. Being able to spot one of these and understand how you can protect you and your family from them is crucial!
What are we talking about? Thunderstorms, of course. Spring is coming and along with warmer weather comes the danger of severe storms.
The Weld County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is hosting a free Weather Spotter Training Class at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22. The class is free, but a reservation is required.… More

Holiday Food Safety Tip: When handling raw poultry (chicken or turkey), remember to wash your hands frequently with soap and water to prevent germs from spreading around your kitchen and to other foods. Inadequate handwashing has been identified as a contributing factor of foodborne illnesses and commonly occurs when preparing raw meat and poultry. Handwashing is one of the most important things you can do to prevent a foodborne illness when you are preparing food for yourself or loved ones. Happy Birthday Lucille!
The Board of Weld County Commissioners would like to wish Lucille Shepard a very happy 100th birthday! Lucille was born on November 17, 1920, on a farm in North Dakota and moved to Greeley in 2012 to be closer to her daughter, Sherri.
Lucille advises others to try a little of everything, so you know how to do anything. She must follow her own good advice, because she has become known at Greeley Place as the Puzzle Lady and the Bingo Queen. She is also recognized as a master seamstress, having sewn all her daughters’ clothing and helping fellow residents with their sewing and mending needs.
It’s been said that Lucille is an absolute delight to be around, with age never keeping her from doing what she wants to do. She is the first one to join in on the fun and usually the last one standing at the end. And, after being the spotlight at a biker rally, Lucille is living proof that a number doesn’t define who we are. In fact, Lucille’s wild, youthful spirit can be summed up in her secret to longevity: “I just think God isn’t ready for this much mischief!”
Congratulations, Lucille, on a milestone birthday and a life well-lived. Here’s to many more happy years to come!
