*Suspicious death ruled a homicide, suspect arrested*

On November 21, 2020 at approximately 10:38 am, Fort Collins Police received a call of a deceased person outside in the 800 block of North College Avenue. Fort Collins Police officers responded and located an obviously deceased adult male. Due to evidence located at the scene, detectives began investigating the case as a suspicious death.

A forensic autopsy was conducted by the Larimer County Coroner’s office. The deceased man was identified by the Coroner as Adam Clouser, 30, of Fort Collins. It was determined that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Through the investigation, the suspect was identified as Brian Townsend, 35, recently of Fort Collins. Detectives determined that the two men got into an argument on the afternoon of November 19, at which time Townsend fatally wounded Clouser, then left the area. A passerby discovered Clouser two days later. Townsend was arrested on November 30 and booked into the Larimer County Jail on the charge of First Degree Murder (class 1 felony). Police have reason to believe that the men knew each other.

"Our detectives worked nonstop to gather evidence and locate the suspect in this case," said FCPS Chief Jeff Swoboda. "While nothing can reverse the devastating impact of violent crimes like this, we remain committed to seeking justice and finding answers for families."

Anyone with information about this incident, who has not already spoken to police, is asked to contact Detective Julia Chenoweth at (970) 416-2645. People who wish to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868.

All charges are simply an accusation by law enforcement officers, and any arrested party must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
