Weld County Sheriff's Office deputies and local Special Olympics athletes participated on Saturday in the 8th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Plane Pull at Rocky Mountain Airport in Broomfield. Our deputies and athletes were one of 45, 10-person teams that participated in the event, raising more than $100,000 for Special Olympics Colorado.

We were pleasantly surprised by the number of people who responded to the question we posed Wednesday about face mask enforcement. We were not expecting over 1,400 comments. We’d like to extend our best wishes to the Eaton Reds and Roosevelt Rough Riders as they prepare to hit the gridiron and try to capture football state championships! Know that win or lose, you’ve handled the challenges of this year and shown tremendous work ethic while advancing toward a goal. We are proud of you!

Class 2A state championship: Eaton Reds (6-2) vs. Lamar Savages (7-1) today at 2 p.m.

Led by coach Zac Lemon, the No. 5 seed Eaton Reds defeated Pagosa Springs 41-7 and Resurrection Christian 27-13 to advance to the Class 2A state championship today in Pueblo. With a victory, the Reds will capture their second football state championship in school history and avenge a 2019 playoff loss to Lamar.

Class 3A state championship: Roosevelt Rough Riders (7-0) vs. Durango Demons (7-0) Saturday at 2 p.m.

An undefeated season hangs in the balance Saturday when the top-seeded Roosevelt Rough Riders try to win their first state championship in program history in Pueblo. Roosevelt advanced to the championship game after defeating Pueblo South 49-19 last weekend. The state championship may be decided on the ground as Roosevelt averages 222.7 rushing yards per game and Durango averages 276.
