THROWBACK THURSDAY
Sixty years ago this year, a new rock band formed in Liverpool. In the comments on YouTube for their song, Let It Be (https://youtu.be/QDYfEBY9NM4), one person wrote, “Coronavirus is wreaking havoc all over the world, and I just came here to calm myself. Hopefully there will be an…

Bell of Renewal

Bell of Renewal 2

2020-09-24 08:17:52

On September 11, 2020, the Lyons, Colorado Arts and Humanities Commission (LAHC) installed the bronze Bell of Renewal sculpture in Lyons, Colo. with a small ceremony respecting the town's COVID safety regulations. The sculpture is designed to commemorate the flood of 2013 that devastated the region, and symbolize Lyons' resiliency and grit throughout the recovery process that continues today. The Bell of Renewal, created by Colorado-based artists James G. Moore and Anita Miller, was funded by the Town of Lyons and private funders.

Please take a moment to watch this short film on the unveiling of this permanent Legacy addition to the LAHC's heARTS of LYONS, our outdoor public arts collection.

We encourage everyone to visit the Bell of Renewal near the Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens and to ring the bell to signify hope, recovery, and renewal, no matter the context. Follow the LAHC on Facebook and join our newsletter to get up-to-date information on the arts in Lyons, including the date in 2021 when we can safely celebrate the Bell of Renewal together.

Also, stop by Western Stars Gallery & Studio to support the LAHC's newest fundraiser, Baby Bells, the sale of brass bells tied on symbolic yellow ribbons. This $3 purchase, as well as any always-welcome donations, help benefit the LAHC's arts-related efforts and public art endeavors in the Town of Lyons.

THROWBACK THURSDAY
Did you know that chickens are the closest living relative of the Tyrannosaurus Rex? They also have the capacity to remember over 100 different faces of people or animals. In honor of the human/chicken relationship, here is a photo of a woman shopping with her Buff Orpington at our local Target in the BeforeCovidTimes…followed by a few even older photos (including a woman walking her hen in Paris):
