National Dog Day is celebrated annually on August 26th to raise public awareness of dogs that are waiting to be rescued each year.
Happy National Dog Day to family dogs, dogs that work there each day to save lives, keep us safe, and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day; for personal protection, for law enforcement, for the disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of a tragedy from wreckage.
In the 1700s dalmatians were used in the fire service when the fire trucks were wagons with horses. When a fire alarm sounded, the Dalmatians would run out of the firehouse, barking to let bystanders know that they should get out of the way because the firefighters' wagon would soon come roaring by. Many of our firefighters have dogs at home, but we don’t have any living at the firehouse.
To celebrate National Dog Day, please share a picture of your hard-working dog.

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for part of our district over the next couple of days. Nearby, a Red Flag Warning has been posted. This morning, we again are sending out part of our wildland firefighting team to the @CameronPeakFire. This deployment is the result of expected increased fire conditions over the next few days.
As we head into fall, you should know that here in Colorado, fire season can encompass all 12 months in some years. Please use extreme caution, have a personal emergency plan, and always stay alert to changes in the weather forecast.
