Tonight, for the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and women’s constitutional right to vote, buildings and landmarks across the country, including, the Boulder Public Library, will be illuminated in purple and gold as part of the nationwide Forward Into Light campaign.
However, it took much longer for women of color to have access to vote. Many Black and Latinx people had, on paper, the right to vote, but were functionally disenfranchised by decades of voter suppression. It wouldn't be until the 1965 Voting Rights Act that the vote would be available to almost everyone in the United States. Learn more at womensvote100.org
