Last week, officers responded to a shoplifting incident involving two adults. One of the individuals cooperated with loss prevention staff and was ultimately cited for theft and released. Officers located the other person, a 39-year-old female, in a vehicle in the parking lot. Following an investigation and the help of K9 Thor, officers searched the vehicle and recovered a loaded gun with a suppressor, methamphetamine, heroin, and several stolen financial cards. The woman was arrested and booked into jail for two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of an Illegal Weapon, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, and Felony Criminal Possession of a Financial Device.

Thanks to the officers who responded to a seemingly simple shoplifting call, then ultimately prevented further use of the stolen cards, and got a gun off the streets of our community!

🙌 Congratulations and thank you to retired firefighter Ray Gillan after 43 years of service. “He was one of those people that was just born to be a firefighter,” said fellow firefighter and president of the union at the flag ceremony. Firefighter Gillan was also a member of the union for his entire career. He was one of PFA’s first firefighters to become a certified EMT and was a strong supporter of the role of firefighters in emergency medical response at time when it was just emerging. “He never missed a chance to help anyone, on or off duty,” said another firefighter at the ceremony.

He was also a devoted safety educator. He operated the Safety House for years which was a moving trailer transformed to a miniature home meets interactive classroom. Thousands of second graders learned how to differentiate between a toy and hazard, what to do when the smoke alarm went off, and even practiced crawling across the floor and exiting a “bedroom” window.

His wife, four daughters, one son, and grandchildren attended his flag ceremony. After he received his flag, he presented each member of his family with a gift to honor the dedication and support they offered him through over four decades of long shifts and late-night calls. “I have said for a long time that I would retire from this job before I lost my positive attitude and joy in my work. I just didn’t know that it would take 42 years and that my body would give out before my heartfelt joy. I have lived and loved being a firefighter thanks to the men and women of PFA,” wrote Gillan.
