At 27J Schools, our mission is to empower every student today to take control of their future tomorrow. At Brighton High School, SD27J, Advanced Placement students are well on their way to a successful future.
Recently, BHS received great news from the College Board, a national not-for-profit organization that develops and administers standardized tests and curricula used by K–12 and post-secondary education institutions to promote college-readiness.
A total of 29 BHS students earned the title AP Scholar this past school year. This means that these students earned scores of a 3 or higher on three or more AP exams!
In addition, eight BHS students received the designation of AP Scholar with Distinction. These students earned an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
As if that were not enough to celebrate, eight more BHS students earned the designation AP Scholar with Honor. These students scored an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams.
Brighton High had a total of 45 students earn AP distinction in 2020, six more than in 2019!
Assistant Principal, Jenelle Weaver, spoke on this accomplishment. “This success in the face of many obstacles speaks to the incredible work ethic and perseverance of our students and staff.”
We are #27JProud of our AP students at Brighton High for this success. We can't wait to see what else you will achieve!

The ability to persevere in the face of difficulties is a key skill for success in school and in life. 2018 Daniels Scholar and Brighton High School, SD27J graduate, Nathan Hansen, has done just that.
On July 14th, Nathan successfully completed the American Ninja Warrior course in St. Louis, Missouri.
The journey to get to this point wasn’t easy. At age twelve, Nathan was diagnosed with Growth Hormone Deficiency. Nathan struggled in sports due to the danger of size and potential injuries like concussions. In school, Nathan faced bullying due to his size and stature.
The love, support, and inspiration Nathan received from teachers at BHS are what helped him to keep going through thick and thin. Mr. Ted Halbert, Mrs. Alicia Champlin and Mrs. Kathy Gustad were just a few of many teachers who inspired him to persevere and never lose sight of his goals. “No matter what the case was, they told me to push through, dedicate myself, and give it my all,” Nathan recalls.

We are #27JProud of all Nathan has accomplished and are grateful to claim him as an outstanding 27J alumnus. Keep on inspiring!

After careful consideration, the City of Brighton has decided to change the location of Car-nival Palooza on Oct. 24 from Elmwood Cemetery to the Brighton Sports Complex located at 1111 Judicial Center Drive.
Since announcing the drive-thru trunk-or-treat event back in early September, the City received multiple concerns from the public about hosting the event at the cemetery. Although the City also received positive feedback, we want to be respectful to all concerns.
