Cheers from appreciative staff members filled the Centennial Hearing Room this week as the Board of Commissioners presented Thomas Ault with a Recognition of Services Award honoring his service to Weld County residents. Ault is retiring after more than a decade working in the Department of Buildings and Grounds.

Since joining the county in 2008, Ault became well known for his dependability and commitment to his job as a carpenter. Beyond assisting county departments with various repairs over the years, much of his time was spent repairing locks and other items in the Weld County Jail.

Always preferring to let the quality of his work speak for him throughout his career, Ault was grateful to work for Weld County. His time at Buildings and Grounds also helped him achieve another milestone — five decades total in the workplace.

“I realized this morning that I began working 50 years ago this month,” Ault said during the presentation, reflecting on jobs held before joining Weld County. “I’ve appreciated working here. It’s been a good experience.”

NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH: Don’t forget to include your children and pets in emergency planning because being prepared for disasters starts at home. As a parent, guardian or other family member, you have an important role to play when it comes to protecting the children in your life and helping them be prepared when disaster strikes. Make sure teens and young children know your family’s emergency plan related to tornadoes, floods, wildfires, blizzards, health emergencies and man-made threats. Make emergency planning fun by including incentives and tailoring it to the needs of your family.

Tips on involving youth and teens in emergency planning can be found at https://www.ready.gov/. For more emergency preparedness tips, visit www.weldoem.com.
