Why are PFA firefighters at the Cameron Peak Fire and the Pine Gulch Fire near Grand Junction?
PFA firefigthers are deployed to wildfires across Colorado (or beyond) when additional personnel and/or resources are needed. Responders work together to help as part of a larger system. Firefighters experience trainings and learn valuable skills that they then bring back home.
The crew that was deployed to the Pine Gulch fire north of Grand Junction, has now been on scene for over a week. They were assigned to the night shift and were thankful to be assigned to stay in hotel rooms (some deployments do not have that option). Crews typically stay on deployments for two weeks and receive their specific assignments shortly after arrival. The crew has helped with structure protection and containment strategy. They will continue to work the fire under the Incident Command there till at least this weekend.
