Health officials are monitoring a Salmonella outbreak linked to onions from a facility in California. There have been 640 Salmonella cases reported in 43 states, including 14 in Colorado. The source of the outbreak is limited to the facility in California and is not related to onions grown in Colorado. There have been several recalls on the onions and foods made with the recalled onions. For more information about the recalls, look under the "Health Hot Topics" tab on www.weldhealth.org.
Symptoms of Salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps that come on 6 hours to 6 days after being exposed to the bacteria. The illness typically lasts 4-7 days and most people recover on their own, though some may experience severe illness and need to be hospitalized. If you have symptoms of Salmonella, contact your health care provider.

NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH: As has been the case since March, the nation is dealing with a disaster – a pandemic. It’s important to remember that not all disasters are weather-related such as floods and tornadoes. Public health emergencies, such as COVID-19, and man-made ones are possible.
Do you have the proper tools in your kit and know what to do during a power outage, food shortage, evacuation or a medical emergency? If so, you’ve prepared for several types of disasters — from a tornado or flood to a pandemic or house fire — by just being prepared for different types of emergency situations.
