FUN FACT FRIDAY: In Old English, pygg was a type of clay that was used to make jars and dishes that held money. Overtime this word morphed into the now commonly used term “Piggy Bank”. These pig shaped banks have been used since the 12th century to store and save money. Today, most people have gone away from the piggy in favor of a savings account and the Town of Mead is no different! A general fund reserve is like a savings account the town uses to protect against unexpected expenses, large purchases, and catastrophic events (think Colorado flood of 2013). This year it was decided to use some of the savings to rebuild a section of 3rd Street. As a priority project, 3rd Street reconstruction is much needed, but we also know dipping into the piggy bank is not a long-term solution.

REMINDER: Adams Avenue (WCR 32) will be closed for two months due to bridge reconstruction. Weather permitting, this closure will start September 28 and continue through November. Local traffic will be permitted and detour routes for through traffic will be provided. The Adams Avenue bridge over the Upper Highland Ditch is located approximately 1500 ft west of 3rd Street (WCR 7), and immediately east of Grace Way. Residents of Grace Way will need to utilize access from the west.
This road work is being conducted by the Sorrento Development as part of their road improvement requirements. We appreciate your patience during this time.
