This week is Child Passenger Safety Week, which highlights the importance of properly securing children in vehicles.
Every day in Colorado, parents, and caregivers travel with children in their vehicles. While some children are buckled in properly, many are not, if they are buckled up at all. Car crashes are a leading cause of death in children under 13, but many of these tragedies can be prevented. This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week, and Car Seats Colorado is offering tips and reminding parents to make sure their children are riding safely at all times.
“Every 32 seconds, a child is involved in a car crash,” said Colorado State Patrol (CSP) Trooper Tim Sutherland, Child Passenger Safety Coordinator for Car Seats Colorado, a partnership between CSP and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). Please take a few minutes to check out www.CarSeatsColorado.com; once there, you can learn more and download resources. Let’s keep our kids safe!

Encuesta para padres (fin de la planificación del primer semestre)

Encuesta para padres (fin de la planificación del primer semestre) 3

This is going out today to all families of Weld RE-5J students:

Your Feedback is Needed! Please Share Your Thoughts On Full-Time Instruction

Dear Parents/Guardians:
As we are getting closer to the end of the first quarter, I promised the school board, the students, and the community that we would review what Phase of Instruction we will operate under at the end of the first quarter (October 9, 2020). We are currently operating in Phase 3 of Instruction (Hybrid and Online). I would like our district to begin moving to more of a full-time instructional model (while still operating an online component until the end of the first semester, at least). Your feedback is one piece of the puzzle needed to assist in making this recommendation. The other pieces of the puzzle come from the Weld Health Department, our students, and our staff members, in which all voices are being heard as well as included in my recommendation I will make to the Board of Education on October 7, 2020 at 7:00 PM. This meeting will be held live as well as Livestreamed and open to the first 20 members of the public who would like to attend.

In order to allocate our staffing resources effectively, it is important to know what your decision would be if we began moving our schools closer to a full-time environment. We are also considering adding more students on the bus for the 2nd quarter with more bus routes. By opening up the busses more and creating larger cohorts, it could mean that more students and staff will have to quarantine if there is a positive COVID-19 case within the classroom or the bus.

As a reminder: We will continue providing lunches to every child for free until the end of our calendar in December 2020. We will also continue weekly lunch pickups for people who have indicated that they are picking up lunches at one of our buildings.

We will also continue our virtual learning component through December 2020 for parents who do not want to send their children back to school.

Our school administrators and staff are beginning to discuss how to bring more students back into the buildings for longer hours during the day and the week in a safe way for both staff and students.

Please take a moment to fill out the online survey before Sunday, October 4th, 2020 at 8:00 PM.

If you have any questions, please email listen@weldre5j.org. Thank you for helping us make the best out of this situation! We appreciate your grace and patience as we learn, along with you and your children, how to run schools and classrooms in a not-normal pandemic situation. Our ultimate goal is to get all of our students back on track with full-time learning before the end of this school year!

Sincerely,
Leslie Arnold
Superintendent
Weld RE-5J School District
