Have you spotted these new art pieces around Lafayette?

“We’re all in this together,” was developed by Chicago artist Matthew Hoffman after interactions with Centaurus High School students and other Lafayette community members in January of 2019.

Spot the pieces around Lafayette at Sister Carmen Community Center, The Arts Hub, WOW Children’s Museum, Clinica Family Health, the Center for Musical Arts, East Simpson Coffee Company and many City buildings.

On Tuesday, July 28, Jenny Bisha, a Lafayette resident, emailed the City of Lafayette asking for a bike lane to be swept. Our public works streets team responded and was able to sweep the bike lane the very same day. In response, Jenny sent the City this kind note:

"Within an hour of emailing yesterday, I was on the phone with the Streets Supervisor. On our way home from preschool today, the very next day after I emailed, we were surprised and grateful to find that the bike lane on S. Public Road had already been swept free of gravel. This made a huge difference in my day, as well as my daughter's, who is 5, and feels much safer in clean bike lanes so that she can hug the side of the road away from passing vehicles. It took a long time for our daughter to work up the strength and confidence to bike to school where we lived in Berkeley, Ca. We moved to Lafayette in mid-May/mid-pandemic and leaving behind our community has been sad and difficult. She was resistant to bike here in our new town. She is safely cruising most mornings and afternoons and feeling so much better and more independent thanks to the proactive, caring approach of the Lafayette Public Works Streets team.

We have so much appreciation for the likely unintended warm welcome we have received in our new community and we are both happy and proud to be a part of the Lafayette village."

Thank you Jenny and welcome to Lafayette!
