A message from Fire Chief Kris Kazian

August 2, 2020

Windsor Severance Fire Rescue Community,

Well it was a great week as I complete another trip around the sun today. Kristy, Cami and I got to spend a few days in Breckenridge, and today I got to have a video chat with my other two daughters and our two grandsons. The girls got me a pretty sweet first responder hockey jersey that I will proudly wear to work tomorrow! My wife is just happy this day has finally come as we have been anticipating the big 5-0 for some time. She told me I have been milking this birthday too long!

We continue to track COVID at the fire station and are monitoring the increases in cases we are seeing in the state and our region. We want to make sure the actions we are taking and the precautions we are implementing are working to make our workplace safe. After watching the way COVID has spread through the Major League Baseball teams, it emphasizes to me that we need to do everything we can to keep this from happening among our staff. While we have great protocols for responding to emergencies, as well as proper PPE, having it spread throughout our stations is as real concern that we are working hard to manage to the best of our abilities.

Watching some of the “experts” this week, there seems to be a large push for compliance of people wearing masks and the belief that doing this could show a dramatic slowing of cases. I continue to see great mask usage when people are in public so please keep up the good work.

We are making progress on the Fire Station 4 Design Team. We are working to make sure we design the building to be a good fit for the neighborhood and have the features of a modern-day fire station. The committee and the professionals we have working on this project are excited to be working towards the final design. We will be applying for a DOLA grant, but the application date has been pushed to October 1 so our project timeline will be slightly delayed.

Now back to my birthday celebrations. Need to make it last as long as I can!

Respectfully Submitted,

Kris Kazian
