Helicopter to scan transmission system
Planned for Monday, July 27

FORT COLLINS – Platte River Power Authority will use a low-flying helicopter to conduct an infrared scan of its electrical substations and transmission lines from approximately 8:00 a.m. until late afternoon of Monday, July 27. The purpose of the scan is to help ensure a continued high level of electrical service reliability by checking equipment for hot spots or potential defects that require preventative maintenance. Transmission lines will also be checked for adequate clearance from the ground, objects and vegetation.

This activity will involve more than 250 miles of high voltage transmission lines and more than twenty substations along the Front Range corridor, from the Rawhide Energy Station north of Fort Collins to southern Longmont. No set times have been scheduled to fly over specific areas.
