Looing for a way to serve???
FIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS SEEK RESIDENTS TO FILL OPENINGS

WELD COUNTY, CO — There are many reasons to consider volunteering for a Weld County Advisory Board or Commission. Meet new people, learn more about how county government works, and provide ideas about how government services can be improved to provide the most benefit to residents.

Currently, there are openings on five different boards and commissions including the Extension Advisory Council, Workforce Development Board, Board of Public Health, Building Trades Advisory Committee, and the Weld County Building Code Board of Appeals.

“Volunteering on an advisory board or commission is a unique way to work with others throughout Weld County to increase your knowledge of these services while taking a hands-on approach to improving them,” Weld County Commissioner Chair Barbara Kirkmeyer said.

Some boards and commissions are looking for residents with experience in a particular field, but none are looking for an expert in government or serving on a board. In fact, part of the fun of volunteering on an advisory board or commission comes from learning about county government. Volunteers hear differing viewpoints about how to solve an issue and work together with each other and with county staff to better understand how government works. Serving on a board and commission also provides residents with an opportunity to voice their own opinions or ideas about how a service can be improved to have an even stronger impact. As a result of serving, volunteers can come away with a greater understanding of a resident’s role within government and the knowledge to advocate for many county services to others.

Don’t let these volunteer opportunities go by without learning more! Information about each opening can be found at https:tinyurl.com/WCBoardsCommissions-openings. Applications will be accepted through April 22. For more information, please contact Karla Ford at 970-336-7204 or by email at kford@weldgov.com.
