WELD COUNTY – A member of the Colorado State Patrol was struck by a vehicle and killed on Wednesday, March 13.
At approximately 11:20 AM Corporal Daniel Groves, 52, was on scene of a vehicle that slid off the roadway on westbound Interstate 76 near mile marker 47 when a 2001 Volvo driven by John Carpenter, 58, of Centennial, lost control and hit Cpl. Groves outside of his patrol vehicle. He was transported to Platte Valley Medical Center but declared deceased a short while after arrival. Carpenter was also transported to PVMC with moderate injuries. High speed in poor driving conditions is being investigated as a possible causal factor.
Cpl. Groves began his career with the Colorado State Patrol on July 16, 2007. He is survived by his partner of two years.
The case is under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol and all parties are considered innocent until proven otherwise. Charges have not been filed.
