April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and the week of April 8-13 is National Crime Victims Rights Week (NCVRW).

This year to recognize both of these events the Brighton Police Department and the Commerce City Police Department are wearing lapel pins that combine both into one ribbon.

This year SAAM is commemorated through the theme I Ask. I Ask is the statement by which individuals will demonstrate that asking for consent is a healthy, normal, and necessary part of everyday interactions. I Ask is the statement by which we will uplift the importance of consent and transform it from being prescriptive to empowering. NCVRW theme this year – Honoring Our Past. Creating Hope for the Future.—celebrates the progress made by those before us as we look to a future of crime victim services that is even more inclusive, accessible, and trauma-informed.
