More than 150 years of combined school board experience was represented by the current and former 27J Board of Education members who came together for a BOE Linkage meeting last night.

Former board members were invited by the current board to reflect on their combined experiences and share District history, but also for an opportunity to learn about current matters in 27J and our future plans and goals.

Twenty-one former board members, some serving as early as 1973, 1974 and 1975, attended the meeting. Many called their 27J Board service one of the most special times in their lives.

“Some of the best times of my life were spent doing business for 27J,” said Ed Harshbarger, who served as board president in the 1980s and 1990s.

“It was a wonderful, wonderful experience,” said Lollie Sandoval. “The bond (ballot question) to build Prairie View High School was passed on my outgoing year.”

Current board members were able to share their thanks with those that had come before. Board President Roberta Thimmig said, “I grew up in Brighton when we had six schools, so we’ve been growing, but we have a good base from all your work. We have built on to what you each did, so I’m glad you are all here.”
