From: Martin Foster, Superintendent of Schools

Dear Weld RE-5J Families:

As you may know, several school districts in Colorado have cancelled classes on Thursday or Friday of this week due to teacher-led activities at the State Capitol in Denver seeking more funding for school districts in Colorado. A large number of Weld RE-5J teachers have also communicated their intent to participate in these activities on Friday as well. Therefore, we have made the hard decision to cancel classes for all students this Friday, April 27, 2018, at all three elementary schools, Milliken Middle School, Knowledge Quest Academy Charter School, and Roosevelt High School.

We acknowledge that many working families in our community will be negatively impacted by this decision. We want to apologize for the inconvenience. However, due to the large number of teachers who have put in for leave and the limited number of substitutes available, we will be unable to provide a quality learning experience for our students this Friday.

Friday will be a work day for all district teachers and classified staff who have not requested leave.

All afterschool activities, practices, and games on Friday will proceed as planned.

School will be back in session on Monday, April 30th.

Sincerely,

Marty Foster

Superintendent of Schools

  1. SO let me get this straight, most teachers are Democrats, the Democrats have had total control of the state’s budget for the past 12 years…so you are rallying against the people you put into office? Maybe try voting for someone else.
