What a great motivational message from a Weld County teen on this Monday afternoon. Take a minute and listen — we think it’s the best thing on the internet today!
Thank you to Frontier Academy senior Caitlyn Olson for delivering an impactful speech about our veterans and her hope for the youth of America at today’s board meeting, and congratulations on being a Voices of Democracy scholarship recipient!
After her speech, Olson was presented with a Certificate of Award from the commissioners.
“You did a phenomenal job!” Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer said after the speech. “It really gives us hope in inspiration for our youth.”
“My hope for the future is we realize our duty to serve,” Olson said in her speech, which honored veterans, including her grandfather a two-time Purple Heart recipient and Vietnam veteran. It also called on today’s youth to be leaders in the future.
Olson submitted her audio-essay, American History: Our Hope for the Future in the scholarship competition. She placed first in the Weld County District competition and first place in the state of Colorado, and presented her essay in Washington D.C., placing fifth out of 40,000 entrants. Olson received three scholarships for her essay totaling $6,500, which she’ll use to study political science at the University of Denver next year.
